September 29 - October 4, 2014 "MITSO" International University in Minsk, Belarus organized "The Days of International Humanitarian Law." As part this international event, “MITSO” held series of public lectures by leading international experts on International Humanitarian Law. The main contributors were Prof. Aram Orbelyan (Lecturer at The French University in Armenia), Prof. Emiliano Buis (Assistant Professor of Law, University of Buenos Aires), Prof. Nobuo Hayashi (Researcher at The Peace Research Institute of Oslo, Visiting Professor at The International University of Japan), and Prof. Hans-Joachim Heintze (Researcher at The Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict of Bochum ). They spoke on the basics of contemporary international humanitarian law, on the application of the norms of the international humanitarian law in the time of peace, and on international criminal justice. The key topic of Prof. Orbelyan’s lecture was “Philosophical bases of IHL and modern IHL.”

The public lectures were followed by the The IX International Law Competition “Youth for Peace,” where Aram Orbelyan acted as the Armenian member of the jury along with six other international experts from Argentina, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Norway/Japan, and Russia. Seventeen mixed teams from 21 countries took part in the competition. Although the future lawyers from Leiden University, Netherlands, won the first prize, the Jury appreciated participants’ excellent skills in implementing their theoretical knowledge in practice.
The annual competition “Youth for Peace” is one of the three highly prestigious youth events in International humanitarian law in Europe. According to the organizers, it aims at promoting knowledge of humanitarian law and international affairs among young lawyers and their involvement in the international political arena.
