The primary goal of development of arbitration in Armenia should be the implementation of mechanisms of effective resolution of disputes, but not the unburdening of courts: Lilit Karapetyan

The primary goal of development of Arbitration in Armenia should be implementation of mechanisms for effective resolution of disputes and not the unburdening of the courts. This was one of the main discussion points of Lilit Karapetyan (Junior Partner, Attorney at Concern Dialog) at the round-table discussion dedicated to the issues of development of Arbitration in Armenia. The discussion was mainly concentrated on the amendments to the Law on Commercial Arbitration adopted back in December, 2022.

At the event organized by the "Arbitrators' Association of Armenia" NGO and AUA Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Clinic, Lilit Karapetyan presented her approach to the changes in Law, the possible legal and practical problems arising from such changes, as well as  talked about the prospects and obstacles for the development of the sector.

She emphasized that the changes should serve to foster the interest and trust in arbitration as well as develop a correct understanding of this option of alternative dispute resolution.
