The positions of the Government regarding the protection of the rights of Artsakh Armenians in the international arena are contradictory: Aram Orbelyan

Aram Orbelyan, the Managing Partner of Concern Dialog law firm and expert in international law, spoke in the “Pressing” program in conversation with Satik Seyranyan about the state’s responsibilities towards its citizens and referred to the numerous contradictory positions of the Government regarding the protection of the rights of Artsakh Armenians in the international area.

“I consider the text delivered by Nikol Pashinyan before the session of the UN Security Council [where by the request of Armenia the issue of ongoing or at least of the threat of genocide of Armenians of Artsakh was being discussed, and prime minister in his speech stated that there is no physical threat to the security of the Armenian population of Artsakh] as an evidence of high treason. An objective and thorough investigation should be conducted as to where that statement derived from, who gave advice or information to make the statement, who wrote that text, under what circumstances the idea of delivering a speech with such content arise in general...” as such a fresh example of a controversial approach was noted by the expert in international law.

Aram Orbelyan reminded the audience that the people who were refusing to undertake actions to liberate Sev Lich / Black Lake (a lake in the territory of the Republic of Armenia) and who considered it not worth fighting for the mountains covered with snow all year round are now talking about leading a movement for Armenian sovereignty.

The interview also touched on the issue of ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, disproportionate police actions during recent rallies, the existence of political prisoners, the extreme inefficiency of the state government system, the importance of having an active civic position by citizens, and on other constitutional and international legal issues.
