Theoretical and practical knowledge on arbitration: Aram Orbelyan taught at the Summer School on Arbitration for law students

Today the Summer School on Arbitration started in Tsaghkadzor, which is held by the Arbitrators’ Association of the Republic of Armenia in cooperation with the Council of Europe for 20 students of law faculties of Armenian higher educational institutions.

Martina Schmidt, Head of the Yerevan office of the Council of Europe, and President of the Arbitrators’ Association of the Republic of Armenia and Managing Partner of Concern Dialog law firm, Attorney Aram Orbelyan, delivered opening speeches at the event. The speakers highlighted the development of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including arbitration,  the traditional dispute resolution mechanisms (courts) in the Republic of Armenia.

On the first day of the Summer School, Aram Orbelyan explained to the participants the difference between arbitration and court, the main advantages and disadvantages, as well as types of arbitration and the main legal instruments that are used in the arbitration processes. Further, he discussed the international regulations commonly applicable in the sector were also the discussed.

It should be noted that the Summer School is implemented within the framework of the "Support to the judicial reform: enhancingthe independence and professionalism of the judiciary in Armenia" program, funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe within the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG II) project.

The goal of the Arbitrators’ Association of the Republic of Armenia and the Council of Europe is to promote the development of knowledge and practical skills on arbitration among the law students of Yerevan and the regions of Armenia through the Summer School.

During the four-day intensive course, in addition to offering theoretical knowledge, be discussions, case-law analysis and mock arbitrations will be held.
